House of Prayer

The Mission

Our mission is to labor with God in bringing His Kingdom to the La Crosse area through night and day prayer.

The House of Prayer is the heartbeat, the essential central aspect, of the Renaissance Center. We desire to see the prayer room filled with prayer and individuals who are battling with spiritual forces of evil 24/7. We want to have a constant covering of prayer not only over the Renaissance Center and our community of volunteers but also over La Crosse and those living here.

Being a Community Light in a Dark World

Matthew 5: 14-16 teaches us to not hide our light but to put it on full display for everyone to see, "so that they may see our good deeds and praise our Father in heaven". We are called to be the light of the world and we want to be obedient to the scriptures. It's not about one person being a light, it is about a community of people coming together as one light in our dark city. The apostle Paul wrote, "The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. Let us walk properly, as in the day" (Romans 13:12–13).

In A Battle

We would be foolish to go into battle without being fully equipped with prayer and others fighting beside us. Ephesians 6: 12 lets us know that we are not in a battle with mere men but "against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms". It is crucial that we are being a light in this world as we go out, but it is more crucial that we realize we are in a battle with "the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms". We need prayer to be our weapon of choice as we battle alongside each other. We will surely fail if we try to do this alone. We need this community of believers with one mind and one heart and one mission to be one body and one light in bringing His kingdom to this area.

Bringing His Kingdom

When Jesus taught his disciples to pray in Matthew 6 he told them to pray "Father... your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven." This means that whatever is happening in heaven right now, we should be praying that it will happen on the earth. In Isaiah 6 and Revelation 4 we see the same thing happening. Isaiah says "I saw the Lord seated on the throne.... above Him were seraphs.... and they were calling to one another, "Holy Holy Holy, is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of His glory." and in Revelation 4 John is taken into heaven and he sees the Lord sitting on his throne and he tells of the four living creatures in verse 8, "Day and night they never stop saying: "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come." So we see in these verses that there is constant praise and worship and adoration in heaven. We should be not only praying that God's kingdom come but we should be acting on this. 1 Thessalonians 5:17 commands us to "pray continually... for this is God's will for us through Christ Jesus." This is our part; this is our labor that we get to share in the work of the Kingdom of God.
